Dr. Drake Goes to Lakers // Exploring Bones & X-Rays
At Scheurer Health, community connection is a key part of care—and that starts with our youth.
Last week, Dan Drake, MD, family medicine physician at Scheurer Primary Care - Bad Axe, spent time with fourth-grade students at Lakers Elementary. He shared his experience in medicine and led an engaging discussion centered on bones, X-rays and injury care.
The interactive presentation focused on the human body, specifically the 206 bones that support movement and protection. Student volunteers were invited to examine real X-ray images, identify fractures and consider how different injuries might occur. The conversation also explored how broken bones are treated, helping students understand the role of casts, slings and healing over time.
A skeleton dressed in Dr. Drake’s white coat, Scheurer nametag and Lakers apparel added a memorable and interactive element, helping reinforce the lesson in a way students will remember.
Dr. Drake shared that his passion for rural healthcare extends beyond patient care—it includes building relationships, increasing awareness and helping young people see opportunities within the field. He especially appreciates that Scheurer Health encourages providers to stay connect with the communities they serve, creating moments that educate, inspire and strengthen those relationships.
Lakers Schools is also home to two Scheurer Health school-based clinics, serving K-12 students with on-site nursing support. These clinics provide daily care, health education and basic treatment—helping students stay healthy and ready to learn.
