The Scheurer Hospital Acute Care Unit provides care to inpatients and outpatients of all ages that require medical or surgical care. The entire healthcare team works together to deliver care in a coordinated and caring manner, focusing on the patient's recovery and well-being. This is accomplished with expertise from many areas of the hospital, including nursing, social services, discharge planning, nutritional services, laboratory, respiratory, diagnostic imaging and rehabilitation services,working closely with physicians.
The Acute Care Unit has 18 spacious rooms with a total of 25 beds that provide a warm, homelike atmosphere. There are 11 large, private rooms and seven large semiprivate rooms. Each bed has its own television and vital-sign machine. There are in-room showers in many of the private rooms. Five rooms allow close observation with a cardiac monitor, three rooms are designed specifically to accommodate orthopedic and surgical patients, and two rooms are equipped with ceiling lifts to meet the specialized needs of bariatric patients.
The Acute Care Unit is equipped with a state-of-the-art nurse call system, which gives patients the ability to call their nurse with a need. Every nurse on the Acute Care Unit carries a handheld phone, which is connected to the nurse call system and allows the nurse to speak directly to the patient immediately. This not only provides quicker response to patient needs, but also creates a quieter environment due to decreased call-light alarms.

Scheurer Hospital offers special services to patients needing further help returning to their former level of function. During their stay, patients receive skilled services, along with activities and education designed to meet their unique needs.
