WHAT IS SWING BED CARE?
A Swing Bed Program provides skilled nursing care and rehabilitation for patients who no longer need acute hospital care but are not yet ready to return home.
Rather than transferring to a separate skilled nursing or rehabilitation facility, eligible patients may be able to continue their recovery in a hospital setting. At Scheurer, Swing Bed patients remain close to home while receiving individualized care, rehabilitation and access to hospital services throughout their recovery.
Swing Bed Care may be appropriate for patients recovering from surgery, illness, injury, hospitalization or other conditions that require continued skilled nursing care or rehabilitation.
THE ADVANTAGE OF SWING BED CARE AT SCHEURER
There are a lot of “in-betweens” in life. Swing Bed Care is for that in-between moment when patients are discharged from hospital care but are not quite ready for the demands of their home environment. This gives patients the opportunity for further rehabilitation and skilled care as they work toward their optimal level of recovery following a procedure, hospital stay, illness or injury.

While other facilities utilize different levels of care, our Swing Bed Program is based within our Acute Care unit. This gives patients access to experienced registered nurses and hospital resources throughout their recovery, with care available around the clock.
24-HOUR PHYSICIAN ACCESS
Another advantage of being located within Acute Care is access to Scheurer's local physician team. Physicians are available throughout the day, with some located on-site 24 hours a day. This provides an additional level of support if a patient's medical needs change during recovery.

Movement and exercise play an important role in your Swing Bed healing journey. Our skilled physical and occupational therapists work with patients on individualized rehabilitation programs designed around their abilities, needs and recovery goals.
Our physical and occupational therapists are located just steps away from your room with a customized rehabilitation program for every patient. We even have a rehabilitation pool right on-site. There is no need to be transferred to another facility to re-explain your current situation.
NUTRITION MATTERS IN RECOVERY
With your focus on recovery and healing, the food you put into your body matters. Our Registered Dietitians work with swing bed patients to develop healthy eating habits that support your immune system and encourage healing.
