Senior Life Solutions, located in both Pigeon and Harbor Beach, offers outpatient services designed to support older adults experiencing depression, anxiety or other mental health challenges associated with aging. The program provides structured, supportive care in a safe and welcoming environment close to home and is built on a simple but powerful belief: empowering older adults to thrive mentally.
In both group and individual settings, participants enter a judgment-free space focused on healing, encouragement and emotional well-being.
Mental Health Matters at Every Age
Senior Life Solutions is designed specifically for adults age 65 and older, helping seniors navigate life changes including grief, retirement, isolation, loss of motivation and other emotional challenges that can affect mental wellness.
(Pigeon) Program Director Madonna Messing explains that life transitions are often what bring seniors into the program. As symptoms increase, many older adults begin to withdraw or lose interest in activities they once enjoyed.
What Care Looks Like in Senior Life Solutions
Participants attend therapy sessions three times a week and receive support through group therapy, individual therapy and monthly psychiatrist visits. They receive ongoing care from therapists, nursing staff and a psychiatrist who develops a personal understanding of each patient’s needs.
Therapist (Pigeon) Lisa Grifka, LMSW, notes that many seniors initially believe emotional struggles are a normal part of aging when they are actually treatable and supported through care. She adds that creating a safe and welcoming environment is central to the program, where patients are quickly able to relax, open up and share.
Building Trust Through Connection
Trust begins immediately and continues throughout treatment. Staff focus on validating concerns and ensuring every patient feels welcomed from the very first phone call.
Peer connection plays an important role in the healing process. Group therapy allows patients to connect with others facing similar symptoms, fostering understanding, support and a sense of belonging. For many participants, these relationships become a valuable source of encouragement throughout their journey.
The environment is intentionally supportive and encouraging, helping patients rebuild confidence, develop coping skills and improve overall quality of life. Many seniors enter unsure of where to turn for help but quickly find reassurance once they begin participating.

“Patients do not need to be in a crisis to come here,” said Grifka.
The program reinforces a simple but important message—asking for support is okay, and help is available when it is needed.
