Scheurer Relay for Life // Rose to the Occasion 🌹

0:00

Since 2020, the Scheurer Relay for Life team has had a flower fundraiser sale to raise money for the Huron County Relay for Life which then gets donated to the American Cancer Society for cancer awareness and research. Scheurer employees, local businesses, and schools were able to purchase flowers and send them to whomever they would like.

On Tuesday, February 14 the Scheurer Relay for Life team plus some gracious volunteers worked to get flowers out to local businesses and schools. Colorful roses and carnations donned the room as the team was busy unpacking all the flowers, trimming up the stems, cutting ribbons and adding tags. Not only could you smell the fresh, blooming flowers but you could definitely sense the joyous collaboration of members coming together to get the flowers out to the community.

When chatting with our Scheurer Relay for Life Team Captain, Camille Parmenter, she stated that all of the proceeds from the fundraiser go to Huron County Relay for Life and discussed what it means to her by being on this team.

"Relay for Life is really important to me just from a family aspect, I’ve had several different family members who have gone through cancer and have thankfully come out successful from it. We want to do as much as we can for those in the community who are struggling in this moment or future."

Although there are many happy moments throughout the day for the team members, we asked Camille what her absolute favorite part of the fundraiser truly was.

“My favorite part about this fundraiser is getting to deliver the flowers to the schools and seeing the really excited looks on the kids’ faces when they get the flowers. Seeing them so happy makes me feel happy too".

Although this idea has been around for a while of buying flowers and sending them off to classmates in schools, it was Community Wellness Manager, Jaylee Chandonnet, who thought to bring this idea to our local community.

“This is an idea that came about 4 years ago, I remember doing this in high school and it was so fun to get a flower from a classmate, just showing those small acts of kindness and spreading the love throughout the community.”

"When we first started this fundraiser, it only started with Scheurer employees but today were sending all of these flowers out to local businesses and schools. Schools will be Lakers, Bad Axe, Caseville and USA, where we have our school wellness clinics."

Back when the fundraiser first started in 2020, the team sold 361 flowers that were just carnations.

In 2021, they sold 930 flowers and raised $1,169.

In 2022, they sold 971 flowers and raised $1,675.

Now in 2023, the team has sold a record-breaking amount of 1500 flowers that now consist of carnations and roses with the total amount raised for this event being $2124!

Whilst asking Jaylee what her favorite part of this successful event was, she responded "My favorite part of this fundraiser is seeing the smiles on people’s faces especially if they did not know that they were going to be receiving one. It is so fun to see their face light up and know that someone thought of them and that their day is going to be bright."

Thank you to everyone who helped out with this rewarding fundraising event and raised money to help our community and spread the love.
