The Newly Expanded Bad Axe School Wellness Clinic

Since students went back to in-person learning in the fall of 2020, Scheurer Health has been part of the school day for Bad Axe Public Schools. Beginning this fall, Scheurer's commitment is even stronger, now expanding its services thanks in part to a grant from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS).

For the last four school years, we have operated a school wellness clinic inside of Bad Axe Elementary School to serve as a medical resource for children with any physical health concerns. This mirrored the services provided by any Scheurer School Wellness Clinic for students at Caseville, Lakers and USA Schools. Now, with the funding from MDHHS, Scheurer is able to expand those services in Bad Axe to include point-of-care testing (such as flu, strep and Covid), as well as having a licensed social worker on-site to help students bolster their mental health.

With the expansion of services, the Bad Axe School Wellness Clinic will be located in the former choir room in the high school, allowing for offices, care areas, as well as areas for individual and group meeting spaces. New modular furniture has been ordered and the area is in the process of being outfitted for everything that the clinic staff would need. Due to some grant requirements having to be met before officially opening, the Bad Axe School Wellness Clinic is aiming for an October 01 start, roughly a month into the school year.

The new location for the Bad Axe School Wellness Clinic is the former choir room inside of Bad Axe High School, giving it a dedicated space to provide care, as well as group meetings.
