MY JOB AT SCHEURER HEALTH // TIM OLSON, PLANT ENGINEERING
Behind the Scenes of Patient Care
When patients walk through the doors at Scheurer Health, they expect a safe, comfortable and reliable environment. What many may not realize is how much work happens behind the scenes every day to make that possible.
For Tim Olson and the Plant Engineering team, keeping the hospital running is more than maintenance—it’s an essential part of patient care.
No two days look the same. From responding to urgent repairs to monitoring building systems across nearly 198,000 square feet of facilities, the team helps ensure every hallway, patient room, clinic space and department functions the way it should. That includes maintaining reliable heating and cooling systems, supporting clean air systems and addressing issues quickly so care can continue without interruption.
Maintaining a Top-Notch Facility
At the center of the work is a simple priority: making sure patients are cared for in a safe, comfortable and dependable environment. While much of the work happens behind the scenes, the Plant Engineering team is constantly paying attention throughout the hospital—identifying issues early, solving problems quickly and helping prevent disruptions before they impact patients or staff.
In healthcare, even small issues can affect the patient experience. That’s why communication and teamwork are such an important part of the department’s daily operations. Each morning begins with a team huddle to discuss priorities, ongoing projects and any immediate needs across the organization.
That collaboration helps the team stay connected, respond efficiently and support one another throughout the day.
Supporting a Growing Organization
As Scheurer Health continues to grow, the work never slows down. Even newer locations require constant oversight, maintenance and attention to detail to ensure every environment remains functional and welcoming.
For Tim, one of the most meaningful parts of the job is the people he works alongside each day. Maintaining a healthcare organization takes a skilled team committed to supporting both one another and the community they serve.
Focused on the Community
While patients may never see the work happening behind the walls, above the ceilings or throughout the facility, its impact is felt everywhere.
"We're providing an excellent service to a great community", Tim shares.
Because when everything works the way it should, patients can focus on healing—and that’s exactly the goal.
