My Job at Scheurer Health // Erin Bassett, Diagnostic Imaging
Behind many diagnoses is a clear image – and Erin Bassett is the one helping bring it into focus. As a Diagnostic Sonographer, Erin uses sound waves and advanced ultrasound technology to capture detailed images from inside the body, giving providers the information they need to diagnose conditions and begin treatment.
Using a transducer to scan areas of concern, Erin produces sonographs of many parts of the body, including the abdomen, pelvis, echocardiogram, vascular system and small parts such as the thyroid and glands. Because ultrasound does not use radiation, it is an especially beneficial imaging option.
With two ultrasound rooms and full schedule every day, Erin typically completes one scan per hour, with additional add-ons throughout the day. Despite the fast pace, her favorite part of the job remains simple: meeting people and helping them find answers.
Erin’s path to sonography wasn’t a straight line. After exploring several career options, her dream job became clear while job shadowing and witnessing a thyroid biopsy. “In that moment, I knew, this is what I want to do with my life!”, she says.
For Erin, what truly makes Scheurer special is the people. She describes the workplace as having a “complete family vibe,” where teammates support one another inside and outside of work. She feels rewarded in her work by seeing the team come together to support patients and make a real difference in their lives.
