Introducing Wound Care

INTRODUCING WOUND CARE

Starting on Thursday, January 11, Wound Care services will be available through Scheurer Podiatry.

Wound Care through Scheurer Podiatry provides care to those suffering from any non-healing wounds below the knee.

Our Podiatrist, Natayla Salowich, explained the importance of having Wound Care so close to home,

"There's a huge need in this community for this service. I first started seeing wounds when I first started working here and I had patients telling me that they were driving two hours every week to receive Wound Care downstate. So it is really nice to be able to provide that comprehensive care to our community."

Our Wound Care service will be able to treat wounds from the knee down such as:

  • Diabetic foot ulcers
  • Venous ulcers
  • Pressure ulcers
  • Non-healing, surgical wounds
  • Arterial/ischemic ulcers
  • Post-radiation injury to tissue or bone
  • Traumatic wounds
  • Infected wounds
  • Crash injuries
  • Compromised flaps or grafts

When asked what to do when you have a wound that will not heal, Natayla responded,

"When you have a wound, the first thing you should do is contact your primary care provider. Sometimes they can kind of triage from the phone and send you over here. Once you get here, then we will figure out why the wound is there and what we can do to address it."
"The hardest part about Wound Care is that it takes a really long time. Most people with a wound are compromised in some way. There are usually factors that lead to slower healing times, so early intervention is key. If you notice a wound that you may think is going to be okay, make sure you get on the schedule with somebody."
"I will be your cheerleader throughout the whole time. When you feel as if you're not making progress but I can physically see the progress, I will let you know that you're on the right track."

In order to receive treatment from Scheurer Wound Care, you must have a referral from your Primary Care Provider. Please contact our Wound Care service through Scheurer Podiatry at 989.453.1927 or visit our Wound Care page to learn more about how we can help.
