Paul Scaddan, MD Presented Community Faculty of the Year Award

2022 Community Faculty of the Year Award

In recognition and appreciation for Dr. Scaddan's time and expertise in the Department of Family Medicine, he was presented with the "2022 Community Faculty of the Year Award." This honor was given by Michigan State University's College of Human Medicine (CHM).

Sarah Wagner, Michigan State University-CHM, Community Clerkship Assistant, explained, "Our clerkship director, Dr. Scott Ross, initially nominates and then the students who worked with Dr. Scaddan nominate the provider by writing a letter of recommendation. The students absolutely loved working with Dr. Scaddan and we also appreciate his teaching and learning here at Michigan State University and My Michigan Health."

When asked what this award means to him, Dr. Scaddan noted,

"I think considering the fact that there are a number of different faculty and to be recognized as one of the better ones is actually fantastic and is a great honor. These students are great and very well educated when they come to us so I'm happy to be able to contribute to their rural health rotation."

Dr. Scaddan also commented on the benefit of having students rotate through rural areas such as Scheurer Health, "I like the fact that they get to see that we're not as backward as people might think. We still maintain proper medical science and current practices the way they should be. The other thing that is really nice for them to be able to see, in my own opinion, is the fact that in rural areas, we don't have the readily available resources that are in more urban centers so we have to be a bit more diligent. You have to be more inventive in the way that we get the care for our patients."

"I am very proud to be able to provide this level of care and education to the MSU students and I will always continue to teach and love teaching."

Our President & CEO, Ross Ramsey, MD, was there to help present the award and shared his enthusiasm for Dr. Paul Scaddan being the recipient of this award,

"I think this is a great example of how our providers care, not just about their patients, but actually about expanding and growing the medical community. Taking part in medical education is something that takes a lot of will and effort on behalf of the provider themselves to actually perform that medical education voluntarily. We're excited that our providers are able to do that and for Dr. Scaddan to receive this award. Go Green!"

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Scaddan on this well-deserved recognition and award!
