For David Hobbs, MD, the appeal of general surgery lies in its ability to touch lives across diverse demographics. From children to the elderly, he handles a variety of procedures, providing care in both routine and critical situations. His expertise spans low-risk endoscopy to advanced laparoscopic surgeries, bringing a comprehensive surgical experience to Scheurer Health.

As someone who grew up in the Thumb and a graduate of Cass City High School, Dr. Hobbs understands the importance of bringing comprehensive care to smaller communities. Working at Scheurer Health feels like a return to his roots and is excited to bring advanced surgical services closer to home.

"My parents were public school teachers in Cass City. I graduated from Cass City in 1999. Coming back, it's a lot of joy, a lot of fulfillment. Things have changed a lot, but you kind of come back in a different season of life where now you're not a student, you're expected to be a leader."

After finishing up residency training at Michigan State University in Grand Rapids, Dr. Hobbs always felt the pull to bring his services to a small-town community.

"Working in a small town is super rewarding because when you can bring a great service to a small town, you feel like you're doing something super rewarding. And so I think that bringing a good general surgery service to a smaller town really fits into that niche of what we need to be: comprehensive, but good at what we do. Understanding that we can't do everything, but what we do, we need to do really, really well."

"You know, we need to get back to the basics. Make sure that we can do everything we can do in our own hometown and local hospitals. But we need to be able to do it well. And we need to be able to do that at a very high quality, compassionate manner that, that really is meaningful for the patient and for the people that are working there." -- David Hobbs, MD
