Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and it is an opportunity to place this important topic in front of everyone and remind people that Direct Digital Screening Mammography, coupled with Digital Breast Tomosynthesis (DBT or 3D), is the only screening method that has been proven effective in detecting breast cancer in its early stages.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women, and it is a sensitive subject for many. Some are concerned about the radiation dose, while others are nervous about the potential discomfort. And there are still many that have not yet been convinced that Screening Mammography is beneficial in early diagnosis.

Scheurer Health Diagnostic Imaging has a state-of-the-art mammography unit, that utilizes unique detector technology that allows images to be obtained at 50 microns, the best resolution in the industry. This creates very clear images that identifies breast lesions when they are still too small to be felt. This technology also reduces radiation dose by up to 20%. Our advanced Digital Breast Tomosynthesis (DBT) features an x-ray source that moves at an arc over the breast, acquiring a series of low-dose image slices at different angles, ultimately producing a 3D view for interpretation, free of obstruction from other breast structures. Additionally, the architecture of the compression panel along with mammography comfort pads, has created a vastly more comfortable imaging experience.

October is about Breast Cancer Awareness and the most accepted recommendation for screening mammography is to begin by age 40 and yearly thereafter, working in consultation with your health care provider. We are here to assist with screening mammography, diagnostic mammography, focused and whole breast ultrasound. Our breast imaging professionals include 9 technologists with advanced certification and our dual board-certified radiologist.
