If anyone can recall our inaugural Spark in the Parkin 2017, Mother Nature wanted to see how quick we were on our feet. That morning, more than an inch of rain came down and flooded where the event was supposed to take place. But because of the dedication and willingness of our Scheurer team, we moved the entire party to higher (and drier) ground with time to spare. This year, we *think* that we are ready for whatever the weather will throw at us. Spark in the Park is once again this year is down to the main area of the Pigeon Recreation Park near the Pigeon Band Shell. This allows us more space to host our activities, especially the giant inflatables. Last year, we were able to debut the much-enjoyed inflatables.

Wellness is the name of the game. Studies show that longer and healthier lives can be achieved by just being more active and health-conscious in our everyday activities. That's what this entire event is about. We want to help you find the modes of exercise and eating habits that are sustainable and not just a 15-day fad. As an organization, our vision ofBetter Health. Better Life.makes it our responsibility to keep our community healthy. Nearly every day, we host employee walks for our teammates, offer healthy meal options as well as tips and tricks on wellness. That mantra and vision are what created the desire for an event like Spark in the Park.
If you recall, each year Scheurer hosted the area's largest community health fair with lab tests and a number of different screenings. But as the healthcare environment has evolved, including the implementation and changes of the Affordable Care Act, U.S. citizens do not need to rely on free health fairs to obtain those results. In most, if not all insurance plans, annual wellness checks are included in its coverage -- especially with Medicare. We found that our once-heavily-relied-on event was no longer useful. So we went back to the drawing board and created the most essential, and fun event that we could create. Now, Spark in the Parkis fast approaching for the third time.
The Scheurer Path to Fitness is now up and running better than ever. As part of 2017's festivities, we held the official ribbon cutting with representatives from the Village of Pigeon and the local area businesses that made it possible. Altogether, it took over $200,000 to make the walking path a reality. Now, there are LED lights illuminating the track for year-round and round-the-clock use. Large, 15-foot trees have been planted and grass is now grown nicely around the asphalt. A very large and beautiful sign has been designed and installed to show our appreciation to those that made it possible. We'll have more on the Scheurer Path to Fitness in another blog post soon.
